  1. Home Depot Kids Workshop - Saturday, February 1 from 9 a.m. - noon. The Home Depot hosts this FREE How-To Workshop for kids ages 5-12 years old, where they will make a Home Depot Race Car! All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a commemorative pin. All participating locations of The Home Depot.
  2. Paramount Theatre Storytime - Saturday, February 1 at 11:30 a.m. Friends from Paramount Theatre will host a magical story time with a special preview of their upcoming show, Going on a Bear Hunt! Join BookPeople for stories, crafts, and FUN! FREE!! BookPeople, 603 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin.
  3. Elf on the Shelf Birthday Storyime - Saturday, February 1 at 11 a.m. Head to Barnes and Noble Arboretum for a storytime birthday party for The Elf on the Shelf! The Elf on the Shelf: A Birthday Tradition is the little-known story of how Santa's finest helpers celebrate birthdays at the North Pole. Join in a super special shindig, featuring a visit from the elf, stories, activities and more! FREE! Barnes and Noble, 10000 Research Boulevard, Austin.
  4. Chinese New Year Festival at the Asian American Resource Center - Saturday, February 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate the Year of the Horse with The Love of China School of Dance. Enjoy food, crafts, and performances at FREE free festival. Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road, Austin.
  5. Kite Making Workshop - Saturday, February 1 from 1 - 3 p.m. Fly on by and learn how to make a kite for the 86th Zilker Kite Festival. Children will have the opportunity to make multiple kites and then fly them in the park! All ages welcome. FREE!! A.B. Cantu/ Pan American Recreation Center, 2100 E. 3rd St., Austin.
  6. Ashley's Playhouse Open House - Saturday, February 1 from 1-5 p.m. Bring your friends and family check out the new magical space and meet the team. They will have giveaways and FREE registration during the event. The first 100 guests can get a FREE taco. Ashley's Playhouse, 13343 N Hwy. 183, Ste. 200, Austin.
  7. Hooked on Mueller - Trout Fishing Event - Sunday, February 2, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Head to Mueller Lake Park for a fun afternoon of rainbow trout fishing! Texas Parks & Wildlife will stock the lake with approximately 1,200 rainbow trout that can be caught, kept and cooked. The event coincides with the weekly Mueller Farmers’ Market where the vendors will demonstrate how to prepare tasty trout dishes. The event is FREE but those planning to participate should bring their own fishing equipment. For more information, contact Mueller Central at (512) 703-9202.   8. First Sunday at the Bullock Museum - Sunday, February 2 from noon - 6 p.m. The museum is FREE the first Sunday of every month from Noon- 6:00 p.m. and includes family activities. At 2 p.m., don't miss TEXplorations Family Story Time.  2-5 year olds will enjoy a FREE Story Time that is geared just for them with hands-on activities, stories, songs, games, and more!   9. Holy Hangover Hour - Sunday, February 2 from 2- 4 p.m. In the spirit of the gospel brunches which take place around town, you might want to check out the Holy Hangover Hour with Cracker Box Gospel Band. Cracker Box Gospel Band “delivers spiritual salvation by way of super-tight soul gospel and other uplifting music.” The show is kid-friendly and there is no cover! Javelina, 69 Rainey Street, Austin.
  10. Eastern European Music & Dance Lessons - Sunday, February 2, from 3 - 5 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. The History, Arts and Nature Division is partnering with Austin International Folk Dancers for this event to bring you dance instruction from many different countries and keep you moving to the music. No partner or experience necessary, just a taste for fun and curiosity about other cultures!  Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd., Austin.

Bonus activities that are free with admission:

  1. Create Your Own Rock Art - Saturday, February 1 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Few things have staying power like rock art. Discover how people wrote ancient stories on stone, and create unique rock art pieces of your own. FREE, but space is limited -- pick up a boarding pass when you arrive at the Museum. Members may make advanced reservations by calling (512) 936-4649. Ideal for families with children ages six and up, this experience is 45 minutes long. While the program is FREE, museum admission is still required. Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 N.   2. Afternoon in the Garden: Faerie Gardens - Sunday, February 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Plant the flowers that attract faeries and learn about special qualities of plants. This event is part of the Garden's regular drop in programming and is FREE with admission: $1 for children (ages 3-12) and seniors (age 62 & over); $2 for adult residents (ages 13-61); $3 for adult non-residents. Bonus free fun in the 'burbs:
  1. Master Builder Play Day Event (Round Rock) - Friday, January 31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This will be a come-and-go play event with LEGO® fun, games and prizes! All kids that attend this FREE event will be able to register for an entry to win a set of four tickets to the advance screening of the LEGO Movie. Parents must stay and attend the event with their child(ren); this is NOT a drop off event. FREE! Bricks 4 Kidz, La Frontera Village, 220 Sundance Pkwy, Ste 300, Round Rock.
  2. STEM Fair (San Marcos) - Saturday, February 1 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Local partners in the SOAR (Seeking Opportunities Achieving Results) organization and the Center for P-16 Initiatives at Texas State University will be hosting San Marcos’ inaugural STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fair. The fair is designed to inspire kids with the wonder and knowledge that come with STEM experiments, and to pursue studies and professions in the various STEM fields. There will be a wide variety of engaging exhibits and hands-on activities for the whole family. The event is FREE and open to the public. San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E Hopkins St, San Marcos.
  3. LEGO Robotics Camp (Round Rock) - Saturday, February 1 from 2 - 4 p.m. Learning Fun 101 will be at Kaleidoscope Toys to conduct a FREE Robotics Camp. This will be "free play" so you do not need to arrive exactly at 2 p.m. Admission is FREE with a food donation for the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Kaleidoscope Toys, 110 North IH35, Ste 375, Round Rock.
